When we returned from Alaska last week, the papers were filled with information about a potential musical chairs game for our downtown buildings. We have lots of wonderful historic buildings housing tenants with modern needs and many of them would be better suited in a different locale. To that end, there is a proposal to have City Hall, the library, the Baptist Church (who are building a new church) and the post office swap locations. The only hold out appears to be the feds, as they don't seem to want to give up the post office building, pictured above. It's a shame because the building is currently very underutilized since they built a new facility outside of the downtown area. There's a determined group group of volunteers that's going to try to find a way to make this good idea come true. That would be nice.
