Ahhhhh, London - our favorite city on earth and always the last stop on our trip. Always a treat to gaze on the clock tower (with Big Ben inside), especially at night.

Not to be outdone by a spin on the London Eye, even under threatening skies.

And fun architecture with flowers spilling over everything.

Cheers! Thanks for traveling along on our 25th anniversary trip.

And special thanks to two very special Brits who planned and executed the whole thing. To international travel and beyond!

Back to Fernandina tomorrow...

Well, Rome has a little bit of everything.....

Fun fountains...

Performance artists...

And style: lots and lots of style.

Rome has almost as much going for it as Amelia Island!

Accelerating Through Italy

Because there's so much fun stuff going on in Fernandina right now and my vacation shots are gratuitous anyway... Here we are braving the elements on the boat trip back from Locarno. A bit windy, a bit rainy and a bit cold but way fun anyway.

I'm personally responsible for sending the kids of these gelato shop owners to college based on my four visits daily throughout our trip. But we walked six hours a day so I didn't gain a pound.

The lovely castle of Sirmione - plopped right in the middle of town - or maybe it was there first...
Typical breakfast at a B&B in Italy. I always like to pick up ideas when I travel. What do you think? Italian breakfasts at Fairbanks House?

A Soggy Day in Switzerland

But an atmospheric look at the Alps. We took a train ride up through the Alps to Locarno, Switzerland and then a boat trip all the way back down Lake Maggiore to Stresa. And no one would give me a Switzerland stamp for my passport. How disappointing. I pondered buying a postage stamp and sticking it in there but it just didn't seem the same - or legal - or adult.

A Chinese Peacock

In the gardens of
Isola Bella about a quarter mile off the shores of Stresa in Lake Maggiore. You should click on the link to read about it if for no other reason than to enjoy the interesting translation that Babelfish or some other service has provided. It really is a beautiful palace (of the Borromeo family) - but I was most impressed with the gardens. We could have spent a week wandering around in there.

Innkeeper Discussions Stresa, Italy

We stayed at a lovely 20 room bed and breakfast called La Fontana in the resort town of Stresa, on Lake Maggiore. Here I am with the owner, Giuseppe, comparing notes after dinner one evening and - wouldn't you know it - innkeeper issues are pretty much the same in Stresa as they are in Fernandina. We had a lot of fun with him and I would highly recommend a stay there should you ever be fortunate enough to be in the area.

Milan Train Station

Other than the flight over, we did the entire trip by train or on foot. Gee whiz, they sure do know how to connect the transportation dots in Europe. Hey, let's try that at home, shall we?

I'm Ba-aaaack

Ciao! This is the first of probably several gratuitous vacation shots. My walks for the last couple of weeks were taken in Italy and England. This particular walk was atop the amazing duomo (cathedral) in Milan: the most amazing structure that I have ever seen. I have about 200 photos of it but I'll spare you. Let me just say that it is worth the climb up every single one of those hundreds of steps.

P.S. While I was away, Google seems to have changed something in the photo resolution on blogs so I'll play with it a bit but, hopefully, the resolution will be sufficient enough for you to share the awe with me.

Blog on Vacation

Whoopsie. Forgot to mention that the blog would be on vacation for a little bit. Please enjoy the last 19 months worth of entries until Theresa's Walk resumes in a couple of weeks. Or you can just enjoy our Labor Day Jumpers...
