Flamingos here and we have to (gently) explain to them that what they've actually seen is a Roseate Spoonbill, our brilliant pink wading bird. I'm told by the local boat captains that their "pinkness" is determined by the amount of shrimp that they eat; the more they eat, the pinker they get. The Wikipedia explanation indicates that they all turn pinker as they get older but I like the shrimp story better so I'm going with it. Whatever the reason, they sure are fun to watch.
